“The Fat Loss Troubleshoot” by Leigh Peele

The Fat Loss TroubleshootI am finally getting around to writing my long overdue full review of The Fat Loss Troubleshoot (FLT) and The Metabolic Repair Manual (MRM). I will review each separately, as some readers may choose to purchase one and not the other (even though I highly recommend them together). I recently have had many requests from my readers, asking for my experience and thoughts on both books, so I decided that it is silly to write the same sort of email over and over individually. I need to get my review of each book posted to the site, so that I can help to inform my readers, based on my experience and to answer the commonly asked questions regarding these two books. So without further adieu, here are my thoughts.

Name: The Fat Loss Troubleshoot
Author: Leigh Peele
URL: www.fatlosstroubleshoot.com
Purpose: Learn how to lose fat for good.

A Note On E-books In General
First things first, I think a lot of people get freaked out by e-books, especially those that do not consider themselves “techy” type people. An e-book is a book that you download via the internet to your computer, in the form of a .pdf file. Once you have this book on your computer, you can either read it from your screen, or you can do what I do, which is print it off and have it spiral bound at Kinko’s. Personally I find it so much easier to read and digest detailed information when I have it in hand versus on a computer screen. I guess I am old school in that way. I also like to highlight and flag important concepts or info throughout the book to refer back to at a later date, so having a hard copy is critical for me.

Why Is This Book Different Than Other Fat Loss Books?
This is actually the second edition of the FLT. In this edition, Leigh has really stepped it up and provided all the down and dirty details behind successful fat loss. What may surprise you about this book is that it is not really a diet book at all. It doesn’t prescribe a specific program or nutrition plan. It is a guide for you to utilize in order to optimize fat loss, and reach your goals once and for all. This is what I love about it most - it is meant to be a tool (hence the name “troubleshoot”). My biggest pet peeve with diet programs in general is that they give you a strict plan to follow in order to get you to your goal weight as quickly as possible, but they don’t explain anything that is happening along the way. To take it a step further, they leave you hanging once you reach your goal, with no clue on how to start moving your calories back up to a level where you can maintain your losses. The FLT not only tells you how to reach your fat loss goals, but also teaches you exactly what is going on with your body every step of the way, so that you actually understand the process inside and out. I believe that people are much more likely to maintain fat loss if they understand the method behind the madness, rather than just following step-by-step rules with no explanation behind it.

On top of that, if you are not familiar with Leigh Peele as a person, then you are not aware that she is the type of person that is going to give it to you straight. You want the truth, you go to Leigh. Her writing follows that same style, not to mention her sense of humor shines through as well. Bonus! You get to learn how to lose fat, AND you get some laughs while doing it.

Who Will Benefit From Reading This Book?
My answer is this. Anyone who is struggling to lose fat. Anyone who hasn’t taken a training break in years. Anyone who is eating really low calories yet can’t seem to make any headway toward his/her goals. Anyone who feels totally confused as to what in the hell they should be doing in order to lose the fat in the first place. I like the way that the FLT is written because it is an easy read for a beginner, yet a professional can gain great information on nutrition and training as well.

What Will You Gain From Reading This Book?
Without giving away the entire book, here’s a rough breakdown of what you will learn as you progress through The Fat Loss Troubleshoot. The book goes into each of these areas in great detail.

  • You will learn what exactly a calorie is, why your body needs them, and how many you need to consume in order to lose, maintain, or gain weight.
  • You will learn what carbohydrates, proteins, and fats are, what role they play in your fat loss, and how many grams of each you should be consuming per day.
  • You will learn about how water, sodium, and potassium affect the body and how significant the balance of these nutrients really is, in terms of your fat loss success and healthy living in general.
  • You will see the importance of weighing and measuring your foods, journaling, and meal planning.
  • You will learn about what foods to eat at different times of the day, food pairing, pre- and post-workout nutrition, and how to apply these principles based upon your specific goals.
  • You will discover what Leigh describes as “the secret of fat loss.”
  • You will learn all about Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (NEAT) and how to properly gauge your real world movement, exercise exertion, and how to dissect the feeling of hunger.
  • You will learn about different methods of strength training and how to choose or put together a program based on your goals.
  • You will learn the benefits to and different types of aerobic exercise and what options fit you and your goals best.
  • You will learn the importance of training recovery, stretching, and sleep, and how overtraining could be sabotaging your fat loss.
  • You will learn how to properly track the progress of your performance and fat loss.
  • You will learn about the basics of supplements and which ones you may want to include in your nutrition plan for optimal results.
  • You will learn what Leigh considers to be the popular and not so popular training and nutrition tips and myths.
  • You will learn about the psychology of fat loss and how to deal with the mental and emotional aspects of the journey.

My One Critique
The book does contain some grammar errors. After discussing this with Leigh, I found that she had problems with her editor on this release and she is in the process of getting the FLT and the MRM re-edited and will be re-releasing copies of the revised version to all customers, free of charge. The grammar mistakes do not bother me, as I know it is irrelevant to her knowledge in nutrition and fitness. I bring this up only because I want to provide a comprehensive review.

Is It Worth It?
I started working with Leigh as a trainer before the FLT came out, but the principles of what she taught me while working with her follow along in parallel with the information that is written in the book. When I first decided to sign up with Leigh, I was no doubt in a similar situation as you. I wasn’t sure if she was going to truly be able to help me to “fix” my fat loss problems, but I was exhausted and at my wits end. I decided I had enough concrete info to say that there was a really good possibility that she could in fact help me, so what did I have to lose? Worst case scenario, I try training with her for a month, and don’t like it, so I cancel. So, I ask you this, what is your worst case scenario? The cost of the book? What is your best case scenario? Finding the information that is going to set you straight for life in terms of fat loss and maintaining that loss for life.

Bottom line is this: If you want the answers to your fat loss struggles. If you want to lose fat without plateaus, bumps, or stalls. Check out The Fat Loss Troubleshoot for yourself.
