Thanks for your input Marc. I really do think that undivided attention is one of the greatest forms of service that we can give, both to others and to ourselves. When we aren't living presently enought to really "tune-in," we are kinda only living half-way versus living in full awareness. Hope that makes sense. There is my deep thought for the day. ;-)

Well said. Even if it isn't an act of love, it is at the very least an act of caring. And the great value that we deem worthy of attending to could be our friend's well-being, or as you pointed out, the relationship itself. Very insightful.

This line of thinking goes outside of the traditional "Eat right, Stay Fit" mentality toward health, and I think that it really coincides with what Humana's Innovation Center (my employer) is doing.

I use most of the tips listed myself. :) First off, I like to consciously think about learning from a conversation in order to get myself in the right mindset. As a project manager, I may want to learn when a suspense will be met, as a husband I may want to learn how my wife's day was, etc. But I like to have some sort of objective for the conversation in order to get the most out of it. I also like to ask questions, even if the question is for the person to repeat what they just said because I didn't understand fully. Its much less stressful on everyone involved to clarify up front then to find out there was a disconnect when the stakes are high.
