Cross Country Adventure

As some of you may already know, Ryan and I are planning a cross country adventure. We are packing up and moving from Michigan to Southern California. This is a move that we have been talking about for quite some time and now we are finally in a position where we can take action. It’s one thing to talk the talk, but another to actually put your vision into motion. I am excited to tell you that we will be video-taping the highlights of our journey – specifically, our healthy eats, how we fit in our workouts on the road, and of course sharing some of the fabulous experiences we encounter along the way. It will take us roughly seven days of travel, and we have stops planned in St Louis, Kansas City, Colorado Springs, Albuquerque, Sedona, Las Vegas, and finally Long Beach.

On some stops we will be visiting family and friends, on others we plan to take in the fantastic vistas and experience nature itself. Let me know if you have any particular must-sees along the way.

I can’t tell you how exciting it is for us to be taking this next step toward the vision that we hold for our future. Stay tuned for the details. The adventure begins next Friday, February 27th.

Best of luck with your travels. What an exciting time for you! I’m looking forward to seeing how you manage to eat healthy on the road… that can be challenging unless you grocery shop along the way.

Hello……….Good Luck on one of many adventures in life. Ya gotta see the “Grand Canyon”,at sunrise. It’s the closest thing to flying without a plane. Totally!!!! Take the chance. I wish I was going. Maybe sooner then later. Peace and Love. Uncle Tom.

Pat – Thank you for your kind words. I have scouted out some healthy restaurants along the way, as well as Great Harvest (healthy, fresh sandwiches), Whole Foods (salad bars), and we have a stash of healthy snacks that we will be baking/cooking up this weekend – I am making Banana-Fig-Pistachio Muffins and Ryan is making beef jerky (recipe soon to come).

VeggieGirl – Darn, it would have been neat to meet for lunch or something!

Uncle T – I thought of you when we were planning this trip, and your own cross country adventure out west. We were going to play it by ear on the Grand Canyon, as it is not too far from Sedona. I had planned to do some more investigating this weekend to find out how far out of our way we would have to go, even to just stop for an hour or so.

Kath – You are welcome!

Tracey – Thank you! I am hoping that our adventures can help others to take a step back and say, hmm, where can I venture outside my comfort zone a little more? We’ve all got to take those semi-strategic leaps of faith.

Thanks, Sheila!

Also, that’s very exciting about your move! I used to live in Southern California (Pasadena). It’ll be interesting to see and hear what your impressions and experiences are there. It is definitely a very health-conscious environment. Much more so than where I ended up (Brooklyn), and probably more than Michigan as well!

Good luck!

Sheila and Ryan – Best of luck to both of you! I’m sorry I probably won’t get to see either of you again before you leave, but I really enjoyed meeting you and wanted you to know that I’m starting to get back into the fitness habit. That said, I am really enjoying your site and plan to use it as a resource. Please let me know if there is ever anything I can do to help you out.

Good things,
Shannon

Melissa – Yeah, SoCal is definitely better known for health and fitness than Metro Detroit, but hey, it’s a bit tough to get motivated to get out and run 4 miles when the roads are covered in 3″ of snow and you are wearing a giant sweater, trying to stay warm. Ha.

Shannon – I decided to email you back instead because this reponse was getting way too long! :-)

It is SO inspiring to watch the two of you carry out your dreams. Best of luck to both of you and I look forward to reading all about the journey!

You will be missed! As a veteran of several cross country adventures I can tell you its an amazing experience. Can’t wait to see your videos. Enjoy Sedona (one of the most beautiful places) and Vegas (one of the most craziest places)! You are both models of taking a risk and making it happen! Cheers!

Hey guys if you have an extra four hours, check out Bonnie Springs petting zoo outside of Las Vegas.
Get the hamburger.
It’s worth eating naughty.

We didn’t get a chance to visit the petting zoo. :-( Our time in Vegas was kinda a whirl wind. We have plans to go back in Nov, if not sooner, so we will make a special trip over then. Thanks Stefan!
