Beyonce Grammy 2010 Performance

Honor Your Inner Sasha Fierce

by Sheila on February 1, 2010

Did you watch the Grammy’s last night? Beyonce is one of my favorite artists. Her performances and her songs in general, have an amazing energy about them.

Halo, in particular is a song that gives me chills, no matter how many times I listen to it. Whenever I am in the car {for example} and this song comes on, my favorite things to do is roll all the windows down, turn the volume way up, and belt out the lyrics at the top of my lungs.

Remember those walls I built
Well, baby they’re tumbling down
And they didn’t even put up a fight
They didn’t even make up a sound

The funny thing is, I’m not singing the words to someone else. In fact, I’m not even thinking about someone else when I sing them.

I found a way to let you in
But I never really had a doubt
Standing in the light of your halo
I got my angel now

Typically I am quite the romantic. I like long walks on the beach and swoon when guys play the role of chivalrous gentleman opening doors, etc but this love song, for me, isn’t about a guy (sorry Ry). It’s about me… and my inner voice. My guardian angel. The voice inside that guides and protects me.

It’s like I’ve been awakened
Every rule I had you breakin’
It’s the risk that I’m takin’
I ain’t never gonna shut you out

The voice that for a long time, I squished away, and didn’t pay much attention to.

Everywhere I’m looking now
I’m surrounded by your embrace
Baby I can see your halo
You know you’re my saving grace

But things are different now. My inner voice is back. And she is loud, and strong in a Sasha Fierce kind of way. I hear her, and I honor her, and I am thankful that she waited so very patiently for me to find my way back to her. She is my saving grace.

You’re everything I need and more
It’s written all over your face
Baby I can feel your halo
Pray it won’t fade away

Hit me like a ray of sun
Burning through my darkest night
You’re the only one that I want
Think I’m addicted to your light

I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo
I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo haloooooo……

And it’s true… I am addicted to her light. Because her light is MY light, and when I am in that happy, blissful place, connected to my inner light, I feel… awesome.

In a sense, Halo is my Eye of the Tiger, the song that gets me pumped. We all have our own version of that songs that awakens the voice inside, what’s yours?

I had a similar experience listening to this song a few months ago. A strong sense of love came over me and I realized it wasn't love directed at anyone else it was love for myself. I don't know if I have ever felt a sense of genuine love not directed at a particular person before, it was an awesome experience. It is interesting to hear that I am not the only one this song touched in that way.
