While Ryan may not be the “face” of Live Well 360, he is intimately involved in the behind-the-scenes day-to-day activity. Like Sheila, he wears many hats, but his forte is accounting and numbers. Some might even say “analyst” is his middle name.
Here’s a fun interview to help you get to know Ryan a little better and to see how he lives well 360.
Stats
This season: 2 wins – 0 losses – 37 shots – 5 goals against, 2.5 goals against average – .865 save %
[Editors note: Ryan plays hockey as a goalie, so this WOULD be his response to the word Stats]
Birthplace: Wurtsmith Air Force Base, MI (now closed)
Where you live: Santa Monica, CA
Nickname: RV
Pets: None
Let’s talk
Random fact about you: I grew up in Anchorage Alaska…I play goalie in ice hockey, robbing people of goals make me feel good (in a nice & sporting way)… I owned 11 cars by the time I was 25… I have lost 90 lbs and kept it off for over a decade.
One word to describe you: Fun
What does the phrase “live well 360” mean to you? Doing what feels good when it feels good.
What’s the healthiest thing you do on a daily basis? Eat/drink whole foods and be active in some way.
What healthy thing do you wish you did more often? Stretch & SMR
What’s the best tip anyone ever gave you related to living well? Listen to your body… aka follow your intuition.
Your interpretation of the word “balance.” Balance, to me, doesn’t mean take some from here and give to there. It means go with the natural rhythm of things. Sometimes certain areas of life get more attention and others don’t, but then later things flip flop and your attention switches to the opposite, but it’s all good. To me, it’s balanced if you feel good about it and, in general, are having fun.
Do you meditate and/or journal? Sometimes, when it feels right. I journal more than I meditate.
How often do you set health and fitness goals? Somewhat regularly. Although I tend not to formalize them by writing them down. For example, a goal of mine is to become more flexible for hockey. This is something I know and work towards, but I don’t have it written down anywhere. I used to be pretty strict about setting and measuring goals, but as you might be able to tell so far in this interview, I’m not so strict anymore. Overall, if I’m seeing improvement, then I know I’m moving in the right direction.
Favorite
Quote: “Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know.” – Caddyshack
Live Well 360 bag and why: This is like choosing a favorite food…I am going with the Core, it’s the bag that started it all.
Pandora station, iTunes song list, or band/singer: The Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam/Eddie Vedder and Nine Inch Nails/Trent Reznor are at the top for me.
Book: Raising the Bar
Form of exercise: High Intensity full body intervals… anything in that realm with functional movement for day-to-day mobility and hockey conditioning.
City for outdoor activity: Santa Monica, CA and Anchorage/Kenai Peninsula, AK
Healthy restaurant: Border Grill
Vacation spot: Wherever Sheila is going
Cocktail: Beer – Allagash Curieux and Stone Arrogant Bastard
Ice cream: Mint Chocolate chip
Flower: Bread Flour
Pair of shoes: Olukai leather flip flops
Inspiring word: Champion
Sports team: Detroit Red Wings
Celebrity: Steve Yzerman
Just for fun
What’s your best physical feature? Calves
What 3 things can always be found in your refrigerator? Cholula… Stone brews… butter
What’s one article of clothing you can’t live without? Red Wings fitted hat
What color underwear are you wearing right now? Shiny metallic gold with tassles
Mac or PC? Is there really a question here? Mac.
Salty or sweet? Yes… together.
Interesting Tweep(s) you follow and why they are cool:
- @Common_Squirrel – I like squirrels and he reminds me to keep it simple.
- @biznasty2point0 – he’s 4th line pro hockey player. A guy that plays a little each game, doesn’t get any glory but is having a blast living in the moment anyway.
What is your idea of perfect happiness? To be able to wake up each day when I choose and to do what I choose… for the most part, I pretty much have it.
What’s your favorite daydream? Playing in the Stanley Cup Finals and winning it all OR haulin ass down the PCH in a Ferrari F430 Scuderia M16 with the top down.
What do you consider your greatest achievement? I would say losing the 90 lbs. After that I met Sheila, we got married, started Live Well 360, moved to CA and I started playing hockey again. I see it as a turning point, of me starting to believe I was capable and deserving of a lot more than I was letting myself achieve up to then.
If you had a theme song, what would it be? So, it’s not a song, but Fatboy Slim could be my theme artist.
Your best advice to people who want to live well 360? Do what feels good, which for me is something that is fun and fulfilling. This applies to everything from relationships to career to fitness. Oh yeah, and you always have a choice about which side of a situation you are going to focus on. It’s true what they say–every dark cloud has a silver lining.

Love this interview……
Great interview. Though Stone’s Oaked Arrogant Bastard is better
Great interview! Sounds like hockey is your second passion in life
Glad you all liked the interview. Have any other questions, comment below and let me know.
Joel – Oaked is good, no argument there. Actually, I haven’t had a Stone beer I don’t like.
This was fun, thank you! Certainly brightened my Monday morning. I have a bottle of Cholula in the fridge, in my desk at work, in my Prius console…most people have no idea what is it. Oh, and NIN during those high intensity intervals? I wouldn’t know how else to get through my workouts if my iPod wasn’t stacked with it! Nice choice!
