“Your word is your wand.” I live by this mantra. Words mean different things for different people, so it’s not necessarily your words that actually matter, but the emotion and the energy behind them that counts.

Why NOT Wanting To Be Fat Could Be The Worst Thing For You

One of the biggest reasons we go on diets is because we “don’t want to be fat.” We look at ourselves in the mirror, we see a surplus of blubbery, jiggly goo on our bodies and immediately think: “Oh my God, I need to lose weight. I don’t want to be fat!
And as the story goes, we start a rigorous diet and exercise program that works for a short while, but soon enough the weight starts to creep back on. What the hell, right? We cut back calories, gave up our favorite desserts and worked out more than ever. We followed all the “rules.” What gives? We just don’t want to be fat anymore!
Well, our intentions might be in the right place, but they may be hurting us more than we think. When we constantly think about how overweight we are, we are actually setting ourselves up to notice and attract more of the things that make us feel that way.
These are simple Law of Attraction principles: what we think about is what we bring about. Imagine walking around all day saying: “I hate Volkswagen Bugs. I don’t like looking at Volkswagen Bugs. Volkswagen Bugs frustrate me, and make me feel bad. My life sucks because of Volkswagen Bugs. Once there are no Volkswagen Bugs in my life, I can be happy.” With that type of inner dialogue, it’s impossible not to think about Volkswagen Bugs!
That’s because even though we don’t want it, we are still focusing on it. And when we focus hard enough, long enough and with enough emotion, it appears in our lives. If we replace the “Volkswagen Bug” with “being fat” in the example above, our dialogue might sound like this: “I hate being fat. I don’t like looking at my body because I’m fat. Being fat frustrates me, and makes me feel bad. My life sucks because I’m fat. Once I get rid of the fat, than I’ll be really happy. I don’t want to be fat!”
This is probably very close to the inner dialog that is actually going on when we are feeling badly about ourselves and our bodies. With this dialogue repeating itself in our conscious (and subconscious) mind, by law of attraction we will notice all the things that make us feel that way. Like the double chocolate-chip cookies, extra pieces of pizza, flabby bat wings under our arms, the wrinkling behind our thighs, the clothes that don’t fit, and the skinny girl who can eat whatever she wants. (Argh.)
The danger in this is that it leads us to feel even more insecure, frustrated and downright…fat. Which is exactly what we didn’t want, yet attracted into our lives. Not to mention that the word “fat” itself has become a highly loaded, emotional and dis-empowering word. So instead of focusing on what you don’t want, create a different intention around what you do want, and most importantly how you want to feel. Do you want to be healthy, strong and fit? Perhaps you want to feel comfortable in your body and your clothes?
A new dialogue around these intentions might sound like this: I want to be healthy. I want to move my body. I am noticing my body craving healthier foods. I like going on walks every day. I can feel myself getting stronger every week. I am feeling more energy. I am feeling more comfortable in my clothes. I am feeling more confident about myself and my body.
When the inner dialogue changes from “I don’t want to be fat” to “I want to be healthy,” the focus changes, the energy changes, and what we begin to notice in our lives also changes. Suddenly there might be a yoga class that seems very interesting, or a healthy recipe that we don’t mind trying out. A friend has been urging us to join her favorite exercise class for a long time, and it wasn’t until now that we are open up to the idea of joining her.
Creating a positive intention around what you want is a crucial step toward manifesting your health and fitness goals! Start with answering this one, very simple question: How do you want to feel in your body? I would love to hear your answers, please comment below!
