Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup oats, blended in blender to flour
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1-1/2 cup chocolate whey protein powder
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 1/2 cup nonfat dry milk
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 tbsp sugar free chocolate syrup (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 cup natural peanut butter
  • 1/2 – 1 cup water

Directions
Preheat oven to 325° F.

Blend oats until flour. Add remaining dry ingredients. Mix egg whites, chocolate syrup, vanilla, and peanut butter in large bowl.  Add dry ingredients.  Slowly mix in the water until “gooey”. The intent is not to turn it into a batter, but rather thick in consistency.

Pour into 9×9 inch pan lined with wax paper.  Bake for 15 minutes.  Remove from pan and cool on rack. Cut into 8 bars. Wrap individually for easy travel and refrigerate.

I’m also curious how these turned out, were they anything like regular brownies?

They were more of a dense brownie, with the dark chocolate type flavor, a little different than the usual *sugar* brownie. I really liked the peanut butter flavor / choc combo. So… yes, they are different, if you go into it with that mindset, looking for a high protein, dark chocolate / pb treat, then I think you will be pleased. If you go into it looking for a cakey, sugary brownie, then I think you might be disappointed.

This reminds me, I need to add pics to this recipe. Thanks!

What is your favorite chocolate protein powder? I have found Metabolic Drive to be very chocolaty, but was thinking of trying a new brand.

I use Optimum Nutrition Natural Whey. If you are sensitive to lactose, then you might be better off going with an isolate (this one has whey concentrate in it as well). I actually used to think I was lactose intolerant, but am finding it wasn’t a milk allergy at all, go figure! I like this brand because it only has a few ingredients and uses natural sweeteners.

These work great for bodybuilders too, I just doubled the whey added extra egg and used a little bit more milk. Then you endup with around 40-50g of protein per bar.

Thank you very much.
