Ryan surprised me the other day with a brand new Cuisinart Mini Food Processor (he is quite the Amazon shopper) and I knew that one of the first things I wanted to make was frozen banana ice cream. I read about it a while back on another food blog (can’t remember which one) and wanted to add my own protein powder twist. This super easy, super fast recipe is under 200 calories, has 14 grams of protein, and is actually quite filling. It’s the perfect snack (great for pre-workout) or a healthy, sweet dessert.
Ingredients
- 1 frozen banana, cut into pieces before freezing
- 2 tbsp skim milk (or your favorite milk substitute)
- ½ scoop (16 g) vanilla whey protein powder
Directions
Add all ingredients to your food processor and blend until smooth and whipped-looking. Using a spatula, scrape “ice cream” into serving bowl. Enjoy!
Tip: If the banana gets mashed and stuck on the bottom of the container so the blades can’t get to it, just add a little more milk to get it moving.

Mmm, a refreshing treat!
Mmmmm….gonna have to try this one! You know I’m all about a good high protein, low-fat snack/dessert!! Might add a tsp of dark chocolate covered cacao nibs for a little kick!
Yeah, cacao nibs would be a great addition. You could also use other flavors of protein powder as well. What other additions would be yummy?
Ooooh! So many delicious options with this recipe! I’m torn between making this with a few chopped walnuts sprinkled on top for a little crunch (and that banana bread appeal) or making it with chocolate protein powder (instead of vanilla) for a chocolate-covered-banana-style dessert!
Omg…I just tried this finally!! I was at a loss for a snack idea this morning so decided to check out LiveWell360 for ideas!! Of course I always have frozen bananas on hand and this was perfect! I added a pinch of unsweetened coconut shreds for texture and a pinch of 72% cacao chocolate chips for a little punch of flavor and crunch! Ooooh, so yummy!!!! Am eating this right now in little bites to savor it all! Thanks Sheila!! xx MB
Isn’t it a great snack/dessert!?! The perfect ice cream sub! Glad to hear you liked it, MB.
