Day 18: Put On Your Second Chance Glasses

When most people think about death, it’s usually tied to fear. Fear of the unknown, fear of pain, fear of the suddenness of it, fear of not being remembered... things like that. There are other people though, that for one reason or another, have had a brush with said premature death. For many of these people, it’s as if coming close to death and surviving, serves as a shake-up. It not only puts them face-to-face with their priorities, but also gives them a feeling of a second chance. What if we all had this opportunity to look at life through a set of those second chance glasses? Today, I encourage you to do just that.

Making health and fitness fun

It’s not uncommon to hear people talk about how they are working for the weekend, or how they need to just get by or get through. When I hear this I tend to wonder, “Get through to where?” What do you think about this kind of "just getting by" life now that you have your second chance glasses on? Certainly we all have responsibilities, and not everyday is going to be mai tais on the beach in Hawaii, but we all have the choice to decide whether to be happy while we are doing what we are doing today, or to not be happy. Abraham Lincoln once said, “It’s not about the years in your life, but the life in your years.” I think Abe brings up an important point here. Life is supposed to be fun. You can find joy on the beach in Hawaii and you can find joy sitting at your desk working, just as easily as you can also find misery in those exact same places. The difference lies in what things you decide to focus on in either circumstance. Today, decide to focus on the fun parts of health, fitness, and life. Make lists in your journal of all the things you see differently with your second chance glasses.
